My name is Alisha Anderson and I have been married to my husband Jamie for 25 years in July. We LOVE to be creative in so many areas in our lives. We invite people into our home several times a week. Our kids, both grown adults now (22 and 18) invite their friends into our home on a regular basis. We are hub for good food, fun games, conversations and a place where people can come and be themselves! Creating an environment to entertain is something I take very seriously. How our home “feels” to others when they come is important to me. I want my space to be welcoming, to feel safe and make them want to come back.
I have always had a desire to be a part of some house flips. I have done some design work for businesses, helped friends transform their space and done a lot in house projects in our home. When we sold our home in Florida and moved to Nashville, we decided to rent until we knew more about the area we want to live in.
The drawback to this was we no longer owned our living space. I so desperately wanted to improve where we lived but didn’t want to invest tons of cash into someone else’s pocket, especially sine we were already paying their mortgage with our rent. We lived in the same house for 3 1/2 years. When we moved in I felt like the space was not us. Our landlord lived overseas and was very open to every house project we submitted. We didn’t spend a lot but what we did to brought big transformation to the space we called home. When He decided to sell the home we were in he acknowledged that the changes we made to the house made a huge difference on his sale and he made a very large profit, thanks to our help.
When we decided to move I knew that I would not be happy in any home until it was us who lived there and it felt like it had our special touches. We started by changing the paint color in some of the bedrooms. Paint is an inexpensive way to transform a space. I prefer light and airy spaces. The atmosphere that is created is so important to me and my ability to be creative. In our studio we painted a wall and did board and batten to make a feature of the space. It was absolutely stunning when we finished and really was the cost of wood and a can of paint.
