One of the hard things about this season of social distancing is that we have not been able to open our doors to our friends and family. My heart has been craving for friends around the table, long talks through dinner and lots of laughs with people we care about. The great thing about this season has been time to reflect on what we value, time to slow down and just be, to re-evaluate what means most to us. We have done a couple things to let our friends know we care for them in this time while still respecting social distancing!
Each day I try and text 1-2 friends, let them know I am thinking about them and checking on them. Sometimes we need someone to cheer us on, or to just remind us that it is going to be ok! The next way I have been loving on friends and family is to send out cards in the mail. Just a note to let them know I appreciate their friendship!
The third way we have been showing love to those who live near by is dropping some baked goods on their door step. Using stuff we had around the house I created a little basket of goodies and wrote a note.
Goodie Baskets
I had these cute fruit boxes I had used for a tablescape. We filled them with a fizzy water, and a few treats. I put a little tag on the front that ready “Some Sweet Treats for Quarantine”
Dessert Boxes
We made a favorite English dessert to put in our little cardboard boxes. It is an Sticky Toffee Pudding. A beautiful made date based cake with a glorious caramel toffee sauce you pour over the top. I didn’t want the dessert to go soggy so we used little mini milk jugs I had from a previous party to put the caramel sauce in. Each cake was put in a food safe brown paper and placed loosely in the box with the bottle of sauce next to it! I placed a sticker we had printed on the top of the box that said “We would be Stuck without You”. The tag wrapped around the box gave the name of the dessert and heating instructions! Everything I used was to box up the desserts I had around the house. I had to get creative but that was what made the challenge so fun!

Family Treat Boxes
We wanted to show some some love to a family we love that lives nearby. When I was at Costco they were selling the wood wine boxes for $5 so I couldn’t pass up grabbing this great resource. It was perfect for my mission in a dessert drop to our friends front porch. I was able to fit 6 sticky toffee pudding cakes and 3 jars for toffee sauce, rum toffee sauce and heavy cream. If you are English or have visited England than you know that heavy cream gets poured over most desserts as a finishing touch, sticky toffee pudding is in that category! I think it helps offset the sweet flavors and the nice spongy cake absorbs it up. I didn’t have any sticky labels at home but I found these cute mini clothes pin and some brown card stock to make labels for each jar!
