Christmas time isn’t complete without hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and a candy cane on the side and if it’s my Momma’s recipe – well, then you’ve got yourself THE. ULTIMATE. HOMEMADE. CHRISTMAS. GIFT…

This isn’t just any old hot chocolate, it is a special homemade hot chocolate she makes as a big batch each Christmas to share with all of us. It has become one of the most popular gifts I have given to friends, teachers, coaches, basically – anyone else on my Christmas list. It also works great as a dinner party favor for your guests to take home at one of your Christmas parties.

One batch of this hot chocolate mix goes a long way so you can use it for gifts, party favors and still have plenty left over for you to indulge in too! There is something so magical about finishing up wrapping all the gifts, snuggling up on the couch, sipping hot chocolate and celebrating your accomplishment. For me, I turn the lights out and enjoy the view of the Christmas tree sparkling with joy.

There are so many different ways you can give this as a gift. Get ready, I’m about to hook you up!

I am going to show you how you can quickly put together these gifts using mason jars, but I’ve also used cute tins, old Starbucks Frappuccino bottles or some small bags.

Items Needed:

  • Mason Jars
  • Ribbon
  • Small pieces of greenery, or berries
  • Hot chocolate Mix (recipe link below)
  • Mini candy canes
  • Marshmallows
  • Andes Mints
  • Small gift tags

Step 1:
Hot glue ribbon around the jars and decorate outside.

Step 2:
Mix the hot chocolate in a large container. Make sure it is well shaken before you start adding it to the mason jars.

Step 3:
Fill the jars with the hot chocolate mix. Leave a small amount of space if you want to add marshmallows to the top of the jar.

Step 4:
Add a cute tag with instructions. It could read something like this:

Homemade Hot Chocolate
Add 1/3 cup mix to hot milk or water.
Top with whipped cream and toppings.

In less than an hour you can make several gifts, tagged and ready to go. If you want to add a little more you could always include a mug, some candy canes or andes mints for a complete hot chocolate experience! Friends and family will appreciate the value of something you have taken the time to make for them.

I have friends who now ask for this as a gift because they love receiving it each year!
